Matthew Cathern Jr., MA

Matthew received his master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy at Touro University. He received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a concentration in Christian counseling at Liberty University. Matthew has a passion for helping individuals, couples, marriages, and families achieve the highest mental, psychosocial, and spiritual well-being by, providing a safe, nurturing, authentic space for them to heal/grow through therapy. Matthew uses a holistic approach in his therapy sessions, focusing on the mind, body, and spirit wholeness and connection.

Matthew has experience working with teens placed in group homes, and working with DCFS, parenting education, individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, relational issues, anger, spiritual concerns, and couples and marital counseling. He also has experience in case management, helping people obtain and recertify for state benefits. Matthew thrives by helping people gain insight about self and their worldview. Matthew is well-versed in various mental health issues and is prepared to help people process their hurts, emotions and experiences. Matthew enjoys working with couples, providing marital and family counseling.

When not in therapy sessions, Matthew enjoys spending time with his family (wife and two daughters, ages 2 and 4), watching movies, playing games, and going to the park. One of his greatest enjoyments is spending time with his wife (date nights) and being active in his local church ministering.

Anessa Almendariz, Therapist Intern

Anessa is deeply committed to guiding children, adolescents, and adults through the complexities of healing by integrating holistic modalities with evidence-based clinical practice. Grounded in the belief that the body possesses an innate wisdom to heal itself when provided with the proper tools and safety, her work focuses on the intersection of emotional regulation, nutrition, and somatic reconnection.

Currently completing her Master of Social Work (MSW) at Grand Canyon University, where she also earned her Bachelor of Social Work, Anessa bridges the gap between traditional therapy and integrative wellness. Her approach blends trauma-informed frameworks with specialized techniques such as Body Talk, mindset reprogramming, and emotional release. She views healing not merely as a cognitive shift, but as a physiological and spiritual homecoming—a full-body process that requires addressing the “whole person.”

Anessa’s dedication is fueled by her own transformative journey, which allows her to meet clients with profound empathy and a grounded, personal understanding of the recovery process. Beyond the clinical space, she is an advocate for lifelong learning and international outreach, envisioning a world where healing spaces are accessible to all backgrounds. Whether through the lens of the outdoors or the sanctuary of the therapy room, Anessa empowers her clients to feel safe in their own skin, reclaim their voices, and build lives rooted in resilience and self-compassion.

Ethan Zollinger, Therapist Intern

My name is Ethan Zollinger and I grew up here in Logan, Utah. I went to Utah State University to receive my bachelor’s in Psychology with a minor in Family and Human Development. I graduated from Utah State in 2023 and took a year off before beginning my masters. My masters degree is in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is being completed through the University of West Alabama’s Online program.

When I am not in school I enjoy playing volleyball along with video games. I played on the club volleyball team in high school as well as the men’s club volleyball team at Utah State. I enjoy cars as well and will attend car shows during the summer months. I previously had a 1995 corvette. I enjoy improving as a person and learning things that can help others along with myself. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.

Kit Edvalson, CSW

Kit graduated with their masters degree from Utah State University in 2024. They have experience working with kids of all ages, from toddlers to teens, as well as their parents. Kit likes working with neuroviderse individuals to help them build skills that will make their own lives (not just the lives of those around them) easier. Their most used therapy methods are TBRI, Person-Centered Therapy, play therapy, and DBT, but they like to incorporate tools like art, music, and animals into their approach.

Kit’s spare is usually split between spending time with family, rescuing and fostering cats and kittens, and helping their community, but they also enjoy hiking and audio books as much as possible.

Tanya R. Comer, LCSW

Tanya Comer is certified practitioner in Mind-Body Bridging and became a TBRI practitioner in 2017. Tanya has 20 years of varied experience working in the field of social work. From working in residential care to working internationally, she has worked in orphan care in Haiti and Europe, within the criminal justice system, with first responders, as well as with foster and adoptive families.

As an adoptive mother of 2, she loves helping foster and adoptive families thrive by giving them the skills to connect and self-regulate. She has 6 children and 3 grand girls. She enjoys being with her family, backpacking, hiking, and being outside.

Randi Parkinson, CMHC

Randi was born and raised in Cache Valley, Utah. She spent four years living in Oregon while attending school before moving back to the place she calls home. She is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families from all walks of life. She has several years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families in both residential and outpatient settings. She also has experience working with adults at the Oregon State psychiatric hospital. Randi wants to work with others to provide a safe place where growth can happen and individuals can reach their full potential. Randi aims to create a safe therapeutic space for all to feel heard, understood, and connected.

Randi earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Weber State University in 2017. She graduated from Oregon State University with a Master’s in clinical mental health counseling in 2022. Randi is currently licensed as a Clinical Mental Health Counselor, CMHC.

Randi is happily married to her best friend and has two golden retriever’s who she enjoys spending time with. In her spare time, she enjoys the outdoors, hiking, camping, backpacking, music, crafts, and sports. She also enjoys spending time with friends and family.

Langston Petty, PMHNP Intern

Langston is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student at Weber State University and a registered nurse on the inpatient psychiatric unit at Holy Cross Hospital Davis, where he has worked since 2019. His experience includes supporting individuals through severe depression, anxiety, psychosis, trauma, and emotional crises.

In therapy, Langston strives to create a safe, supportive, and non-judgmental space where clients feel heard and respected. He believes that meaningful change happens when people feel understood and empowered to take an active role in their care.

Outside of school, Langston enjoys spending time with friends and family and being outdoors, especially fishing.

I am a registered nurse working in the NICU and postpartum setting, where I have developed a strong passion for mental health. Kameo Anderson, MSW Intern

Kameo is a Master of Social Work intern who is in her final year of study at Weber State University. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice at Weber State in 2020. Since then, Kameo has worked in law enforcement as both a patrol officer and a detective, gaining valuable skills pertaining to crisis response, trauma-focused interviewing and intervention, and resource coordination. It was during the course of her work that she discovered her passion to offer assistance in healing to those experiencing crises and trauma.

Kameo is a Texas native who loves to take advantage of the Utah outdoors. When she isn’t outside, Kameo can be found spending time with her two giant dogs, reading a book at coffee shop, or finding a new project to work on.

Viridiana Cid Vasquesz, MSW Intern

Karina Gomez, CSW

Karina has four years of working with adolescence and different family dynamics through various rules, including residential facilities, and DCFS.

Karina focuses on establishing relationships through connection and felt safety. She specializes in trauma, informed care and works to create healthy relationships within various family dynamics.

Outside of work, Karina loves to attend and watch sporting events and explore new locations and new foods .

Amy Nielson, CSW

Amy has had a love for people and learning about why we do what we do, ever since she can remember.

She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Child and Family Studies from Weber State University in 2010 and since that time has been working with children and families in the Ogden area and Weber county in various capacities.

Amy is currently embarking on her last year of her Master of Social Work program through Utah State University. Although she will miss being in school and learning, she is looking forward to supporting children and families on a deeper level.

Amy is passionate about providing a safe space where individuals can heal, grow, and discover their strengths.

One of Amy’s favorite things to do is to play board games with her daughters. In the past year they have also added some video games to the mix. Amy and her daughters also love exploring the Oregon coast, and they try to get out there on a yearly basis.

McKenzie Myers, CSW

McKenzie graduated with a bachelor of Social Work from Utah valley University and a masters in Social Work from Utah State University.

She has assisted clients in dealing with ADHD, victimization, life transitions, anxiety, OCD, and depression. Additionally, she has experience with CBT, DBT, TF-CBT, experiential therapy, solution focused therapy, and mind-body bridging. McKenzie focuses on the strengths that each client brings to the session and draws on those to empower each client.

In her free time McKenzie loves to be out on the water kayaking, exploring national parks, rock climbing or spending time with her family.

Lexus applies a holistic approach to her therapy sessions, focusing on the mind and body connection.

Lexus has experience working with victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence, trauma, parenting education, pregnancy and postpartum health/mental health recovery, and families involved in DCFS. She also has experience counseling couples dealing with many diverse and unique issues. Lexus thrives by helping people reach their personal and relational goals. Lexus is trauma informed and prepared to help people process their emotions and experiences. Lexus enjoys working with all stages, couples, and families.

When Lexus is not in session with you, she enjoys cooking and being active with her family. Some of her favorite things are in the simple moments, like being with her loved ones, relaxing with a good movie or game, and laughing. Her greatest joy of all is being a parent with her husband.

Jessica Burrell, CSW

I believe that the connection between a therapist and client is the heart of therapy—it’s where the magic happens! I aim to be friendly, approachable, and non-judgmental so you feel safe and supported while we work through the hard stuff.

For kids, I want therapy to be fun while they learn and grow. For families, I love helping everyone communicate better, solve problems together, and feel more connected. I tailor every treatment plan to fit your unique needs because no two families or individuals are the same.

I’m especially passionate about helping people who’ve experienced PTSD or trauma. I know how heavy that can feel, and I’m here to help lighten the load and give you the tools to move forward.

When I’m not in session, you can find me rooting for the Utah Hockey Club, getting way too competitive with my family in Mario Kart, or planning my next vacation. To recharge, I love unwinding with reality TV (Real Housewives of SLC, anyone?), spending time outdoors, working on puzzles, and singing along to my favorite tunes.

Kamie Barnes, LCSW

Kamie is a Certified Social Worker and graduated from Boise State University with a Master’s in Social Work. Kamie also obtained her Bachelor’s of Social Work with a minor in communications from Weber State University. Kamie is passionate about empowering individuals and families to live an authentic, healed and balanced life. “Hi I’m Kamie! I consider it an honor and privilege to witness someone’s healing journey. In my free time you will find me having dart wars with my four kids, playing my ukulele, or singing my heart out at karaoke.”

Spencer Cieslak, CSW

Spencer didn’t set out to be a therapist, but looking back, it all makes sense. He got his start with a degree in Health Promotion while focusing on mental health and suicide prevention. That opened the door to community work, which eventually led him to the classroom. It was in the classroom where he realized he was drawn to more than just teaching. The real magic was in the honest, human moments. That’s what pulled him toward social work.

He recently finished his Master’s in Social Work at Weber State (go Wildcats!) and is excited to keep showing up for people in a real, meaningful way. Spencer believes that change doesn’t come from trying to fix people. It starts with trust, honesty, and creating a space where folks feel safe, heard, and respected. Progress isn’t always dramatic; sometimes it’s just about being present and staying with whatever shows up. For Spencer, that kind of grounded connection, where people feel free to explore what matters most, is where the spiritual side of therapy really lives.

When he’s not in session, you’ll probably find Spencer rolling dice as a shape-shifting druid in Dungeons & Dragons, blasting music while pretending to clean, or competing in some intense board game competitions. He’s a big fan of the outdoors, quiet moments, and unapologetically obsessed with stegosauruses (objectively the best dinosaur, no question). He’s always down for a good story, whether it’s in a movie, a game, or just something shared over coffee.

Preston Calcut, CMHC

Preston worked for DCFS in Utah for just over 4.5 years. During that time he held positions in CPS, TAL, Ongoing/In-Home, and RFC. Preston also worked as a Connections Advocate for youth in foster care at Raise the Future. Preston was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army Reserve for 10 years.

He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Weber State University. Preston also earned his Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Walden University in May 2021.

Preston has been happily married for 8 years and has a son, daughter, and one on the way.

Sandi Rindlisbacher, PMHNP Intern

Sandi Rindlisbacher is a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner intern with a deep passion for helping people grow, heal, and progress in life. With a strong history of working directly with individuals through service and care roles, Sandi brings compassion, empathy, and dedication to every interaction.

After beginning a nursing career in 2022, Sandi recognized a growing need to support people in a different, more holistic way, leading to a focus on psychiatric care. Sandi is committed to empowering individuals through understanding, support, and meaningful connection.

Chris Stock, MSW Intern

Chris Stock was born in Utah and loves spending time in the mountains. Chris and his wife love snowboarding and hiking. Chris has three children and two rat terriers. In 2004, Chris obtained a Bachelor of Psychology degree from Weber State University. He then worked with young adult residents at the Ogden School for the Deaf and Blind until beginning his work at the Division of Child and Family Services. Chris most recently worked as a case manager for local hospitals covering neurology, shock trauma, oncology, and NICU services.

Chris is a Master of Social Work intern at Boise State University. Chris is experienced in trauma-informed care, evidence-based mental health treatment, motivational interviewing, and strength-based interventions. Chris has experience and training in helping clients navigate major life challenges, trauma, depression and anxiety.

Phyllis Moyes, Intern

Phyllis is passionate about both people and systems, and finds energy in exploring the dynamic interplay between them. She firmly believes that strong family units—regardless of their structure—are the foundation of healthy, thriving communities and play a crucial role in supporting mental health. By helping individuals one by one, Phyllis aims to strengthen families—and in turn, build stronger communities.

Phyllis is currently in her final year of the master’s program at Utah State University. Throughout her academic journey, she has gained hands-on experience working at an agency that served a diverse range of clients, including teens, individuals, and couples. She has facilitated various therapy treatment groups such as Hold Me Tight (a marriage-focused group), sexual compulsivity support, and general mental health skill-building.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, Phyllis volunteered at Farmington Bay Youth Center, where she provided hope and life skills to incarcerated teens. In addition, she spent eight years facilitating addiction recovery meetings, further deepening her commitment to helping others heal and grow.

Outside of her professional and academic life, Phyllis is married to her best friend, Scott. Together they share a vibrant family of five amazing children, three fantastic “in-love” children (because “in-law” doesn’t quite capture the love), and a beautiful granddaughter—with another grandbaby on the way.

With four years of experience as a school counselor, he has worked extensively with children and adolescents ages 5 to 16, fostering their emotional growth and well-being.

Chris is currently pursuing a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a specialization in Children and Adolescent Therapy, at National University and is excited to be part of Anson Family Counseling while working toward licensure. Passionate about creating a safe and supportive environment, he values a compassionate, client-centered approach to therapy.

Happily married for 11 years, Chris and his wife are raising six wonderful children—five boys and one girl. Having lived in Utah, Colorado, and Oregon, he has a deep love for the outdoors and enjoys camping, hiking, watching sports, and playing trading card games in his free time.

Sydney is entering her final year of Weber’s Master of Social Work Program following the completion of her BS in Psychology with an emphasis in Child and Family Studies. During her MSW, Sydney has worked as an intern for community mental health support in Davis County, working with a wide array of diverse populations. She has also worked in multiple Junior High Schools providing counseling and academic support to help adolescents achieve their highest potential. In collaboration with Anson Family Counseling, Sydney looks forward to working with children, families, couples, and individuals.

With a strong belief in self-efficacy and being open and understanding of others’ experiences, Sydney is committed to providing an accepting and warm environment that will encourage others to identify changes they want to make in their lives and learn all the tools needed to do so. Sydney is always open-minded and loves to connect with others through playful communication and humor.

In her free time, Sydney loves to draw, play games, write, watch movies, and spend time with her friends and family.

Macie Burnett, CSW

I believe that every person is born good. The trials and struggles that you face, along with the environment that you grew up in, the support you were given, and the circumstances you were in, created you to be the way that you are. You learned to care for yourself in the best way that you knew how. We all deserve to be seen for who we are at this moment, and not the things we have done or been through. I will meet each client with a clean slate. Each person has certain circumstances that are suited for them, this means that interventions may not be the same. Every person learns and understands things differently. I am open to learning about your needs and will do my best to research and try what will best fit those needs.

Self-improvement happens one day at a time, one step at a time. We all make mistakes and we all fail. Without failure, we would never learn what works. Please remember, that healing hurts. Some days will be harder than others, however it is just a rough moment, not a rough life. In order to heal, we first must hurt.

Melissa Garcia, AMFT

In her free time, Melissa enjoys spending quality time with her family, indulging in her favorite TV shows, dancing, and cooking. She is excited to support clients on their journey toward healing and growth.

Jennae Devereaux, CSW

Therapist

Jennae has nine years of experience in the mental health field doing various jobs. Jennae specializes in transracial adoption Anxiety, and self-worth/empowerment.

Her expertise includes conduct disorders, mood disorders, racial trauma, and transracial adoption challenges. Modalities she uses are Solution-Focused, Play Therapy, CBT, and many others.

Jennae excels at fostering relationships and empowering individuals to achieve their goals with a focus on hope and growth. Outside work, she enjoys staying active, eating good food, and laughing with her two children, friends, and family.

Brandie Naylor, CSW

Therapist

Brandie Naylor is currently a certified social services worker. She graduated with her MSW from Utah State University and her BSW in Social Work and Family Studies from Weber State University in 2001.

She has experience in child welfare and education at residential treatment facilities, child protective services, children’s shelters, independent living programs, and schools in remote areas of Oregon, Alaska, and Hawaii. Brandie also has experience in foster care and adoption providing training, support, and resources to families. She is a Making Sense of Your Worth Facilitator and Trust-Based Relational Intervention® Practitioner, giving her insight and knowledge into the trauma-informed and attachment based modalities that can support individuals seeking healthy relationships.

In her free time, Brandie enjoys spending time with her three teenagers, traveling, watching reality TV shows, and going on road trips with her husband.

Chris Grawrock, AMFT

Therapist

Chris started his schooling to become a therapist at Brigham Young University-Idaho where he wanted to become a therapist. After graduating from this school, he went on to continue his career goal of becoming a therapist by attending North Central University.

During his internship, Chris found that he enjoyed working with adolescents and helping them to find ways to cope with some of the obstacles they face. One way that Chris has been able to do this is to be himself. Chris is a very personable therapist and a self-proclaimed geek; his geekiness has been a way that he has connected with adolescents by sharing in some of their hobbies and passions.

Andrea Mendenhall, LMFT

I love collaborating with people who recognize their need for change, no matter how big or small, and are ready to explore what that might mean. My clients are very different from one another, and I strive to give sessions as individualized as the people in them. My goal is to offer a space that is warm, inviting, and safe, where clients can say anything while feeling heard and supported. I strive to have compassionate, judgement free sessions.

I believe that who we are now reflects our experiences early in life. I enjoy helping parents feel confident in raising their kids. I enjoy helping youth express themselves. I enjoy working with people who want to strengthen their partnerships, and I feel passionate about helping people overcome self-harm or suicidal ideation.

I believe we feel better and function better when we have healthy connections with other people. My work can help you connect to others through increasing communication skills, developing understanding, and intentionally regulating emotional responses. Marc Anson, LCSW

Owner and Executive Director

Marc is known for his calming presence and accepting demeanor. He also brings an energetic optimism to the therapy arena. Marc has been serving families clinically in the Northern Utah area since 2007. He graduated from BYU in 2003 with a Bachelors degree in Psychology. He then gained a wealth of experience working for the State of Utah as a child welfare caseworker in various capacities. In 2009 he graduated from the University of Utah with a Masters degress in Social Work.

Ever since graduate school, he has never stopped learning, and never ceased pushing to find ways to better help the community. Anson Family Counseling was born in 2013 and Marc saw clients on a limited basis. He was gaining experience and momentum for future opportunities. In 2018, he and the love of his life felt strongly that it was time to take the leap and they went all in as self-employed entrepreneurs. They secured a contract with the State of Utah, and Anson Family Counseling took off like a rocket.

Marc is married to his best friend and partner in projects. Together they have 5 amazing and energetic children. They all love spending time together and taking care of what is most important: each other. Marc loves music, dancing, hiking, and trying new food.
